Twist channels are a great place to have conversations related to a team, project or specific topic. For example, you could have channels like Customer Service team, Rebranding project, or Design inspiration. Read more about how to organize your channels here.
If you are a guest, you unfortunately won't be able to create a channel. You can learn more about how guests work in Twist here.
So if you’re starting a new project or you’re onboarding a brand new team to Twist, you’ll want to create a new channel for your members. Here’s how.
- In the left-hand menu, hover your mouse over Channels. Click the three dots icon that appears to the right.
- Select + Create new channel.
- Type the channel name and choose an icon color.
- Choose the channel color by clicking the color dot.
- (Optional) Write a description for your channel.
- Select if you want your channel to be Public or Private.
- Click Next.
- Add team members by typing their name in the search field.
- When you've added all the team members you want, click Next.
- Select who you want to tag by default when you start a new thread: Everyone in channel or create a custom list by selecting Custom default participants.
- Click Create.
- Tap Channels in the bottom of your screen.
- In the channels list, tap the + icon to the right of Channels.
- Tap the + icon in the top-right corner.
- You will now see a list of channels. Instead of opening one of these channels, tap the + icon in the top-right corner again.
- Type the channel name.
- (Optional) Write a description for your channel.
- Tap Color to select a channel color.
- Select whether you would like your channel to be Public or Private.
- Tap Next in the top-right corner.
- Select which people you would like to add by tapping their name. A checkmark will appear beside their name. When you have selected all the users or groups you’d like to invite, tap Next in the top-right corner.
- Select who you want to tag by default when you start a new thread: Everyone in channel or create a custom list by selecting Custom default participants and then tapping Manage participants.
- Once you're done customizing your channel, tap Create in the top-right corner.
- Tap Channels in the bottom of your screen.
- In the channels list, tap the + icon to the right of Channels.
- Tap the + icon in the top-right corner.
- You will now see a list of channels. Instead of opening one of these channels, tap the + icon in the top-right corner again.
- Type the channel name.
- Tap the colored dot to select a channel color.
- (Optional) Write a description for your channel.
- Select whether you would like your channel to be Public or Private.
- Tap Next in the top-right corner.
- Select which people you would like to add by tapping their name. A checkmark will appear beside their name. When you have selected all the users or groups you’d like to invite, tap Next in the top-right corner.
- Select who you want to tag by default when you start a new thread: Everyone in channel or create a custom list by selecting Default participants and then tapping Edit Default.
- Once you're done customizing your channel, tap Create in the top-right corner.
FAQ
If I create a public channel, will every team member be invited?
No. When you create a public channel you choose which team members to invite to the channel. Those invited team members are now channel followers who can create threads, read threads and be invited to any thread in the channel. Other team members can see your channel and join it if they would like.
