Troubleshoot notifications not received from Twist

Missed a notification for an important message or comment? If you're not receiving any notifications from Twist on all your devices, here are troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.

Limitations

There may be device-specific limitations that are keeping you from receiving Twist notifications. Here are the most common limitations:

Delays

It may take up to 30 seconds from when a new comment, message, or thread is updated for you to see the notification.

Twist app running on the foreground

If Twist is running in the foreground on any of your devices, you won’t receive notifications.

Focus Assist

Focus Assist in Windows blocks Twist notifications by default. If you want to receive notifications in Priority mode, add Twist via Settings → System → Focus Assist. Under Priority only, click Customize your priority list → Add an app. Then, select Twist.

Restart both Twist and your device

  1. Log out of Twist on your device.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Log back in to Twist.

Update Twist to the latest version

  1. Click your team icon in the top-left corner of Twist. A dropdown menu will appear.
  2. If a new version is available, you'll see a teal dot in the bottom-right corner of the dropdown menu.
  3. You can make your Twist update to the newest version by using the keyboard shortcut ⌘ Command + R (macOS) or F5 (Windows).
  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. In the bottom-right, click Updates.
  3. If an update is available for Twist, click Update.
If a new version is available, you'll see a banner at the bottom-right. To download and update the app, right-click the Twist icon in the system tray, and select Quit Twist. The new version will be downloaded and updated automatically.
  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. In the bottom-right, tap Updates.
  3. If an update is available for Twist, tap Update.
  1. Open the Google Play app.
  2. Search for Twist.
  3. If an update is available for Twist, tap Update.

Send a test notification to all your devices

Open the Twist notifications debug page and send a test push notification to Twist on all your devices. This will help you find out which device is affected by the issue, or if Twist itself fails to send push notifications.

Check if Twist notifications are enabled for your device

  1. Click your team name at the top-left.
  2. Select Settings & members.
  3. Select Notifications.

FAQ

I've enabled notifications, but I'm still not getting any. What else can I try?

Here are a few things you can try to get your notifications working:

  • If you’re not getting a notification for a group message, make sure you haven’t muted it.
  • Make sure your device is not in low power mode or running a battery saver app.
  • Disable programs like Clean Master and other blocker apps which prevent notifications from popping up.
